Chelsea Sommer serves as President of the SAIS Global Women in Leadership European Chapter and helped found GWL Europe during the 2015-2016 academic year. She is a second-year MAIA student focusing on Conflict Management and currently writing her thesis on the inclusion of women in peacebuilding. While at SAIS she interned with both Women in International Security in Rome and Talent Beyond Boundaries, a refugee placement organization in D.C.
Prior to SAIS, Chelsea worked as a Case Manager for Denver Human Services, taught ESL, and worked with survivors of war in South Korea, Vietnam, and Greece. Chelsea graduated from the University of Colorado in Boulder with a degree in Anthropology and Women & Gender Studies. During her undergraduate studies, she wrote her honors thesis on Social Mobilization in the Commercial Sex Industry while doing field research in India. She is pursuing a career helping women in conflict.
